Clann Eireann 2.12 Armagh Harps 1.12
Coming straight after the classic between Clan Na Gael and Killeavey, the second senior semi final had a lot to live up to.
While the game wasn’t for the purists, it satisfied those with a modern ethos, and was pleasing to Clann Eireann who deserves a 3 points win over a very good Harps team.
Clann’s boss Ruairi Lavery agreed that some of the long range points hit on the night were the highlight “With men behind the ball you have to shoot from distance, there were some great score from both sides”.
The ordinary nature of the game was a bit predictable, it looked like the Lurgan side were always in the driving seat,
Two penalty strikes perforated the action, James Mc Coy blasted his effort home with Conor Turbitt cracking his spot kick to Harps keeper John Daly’s right. The highlight of the tussle was the score blasted over by Ruairi Mc Donald who also hit his sides second goal, from under the far stand, Mc Cambridge who was sublime hit a superb effort from distance, with the strikes lifting the mood in a pedestrian game. Tom O Kane with his 3 points from play was superb for Harps and although midfield pairing Joe Mc Elroy and Oisin Hughes were matched by winning pairing of Tiernan Kelly and Conor Mc Conville, the strength of the winners bench was evident when Meehan, French, Aodhan Mc Conville, Mallon and in particular Shay Heffron just back from injury were introduced. For sheer endeavor and dash Ryan Owens was his side’s best on the day, where great scores kept the crowd interested, the win was all that counted for the winners, “We are in the semi final , that’s all that matters” stressed Clann’s ‘boss Rory Lavery.
